Mendoza & Patagonia

With constant care and personal style – essential elements for great quality, Phebus combines modern winemaking, Mendoza’s terroir and the Bordeaux “savoir faire” to produce wines of unique personality.

Hervé’s philosophy is very much one of minimal intervention – he believes that wine should be an expression of the fruit and the vineyard. His wines are always fruit-driven, and where he uses oak it is very much in a supporting role, so it never dominates.

Phebus farms with traditional sustainable methods in order to obtain the best grapes while respecting the environment. Our vines are treated with the upmost care and attention to ensure we grow high quality grapes for our wines. Hervé’s passion and knowledge have enabled him to produce exceptional wines that have achieved international acclaim.

The major wine regions of Argentina are located in the western part of the country among the foothills of the Andes Mountains. Most of the regions have a semi-arid desert climate with annual rainfall rarely exceeding more than 250mm a year.

The altitude, range of temperatures, the local know-how, new technologies and a deeply rooted culture of wine give Argentine wines their identity and unique quality. Phebus sources its grapes from vineyards located in the best viticulture areas of Mendoza (Luján de Cuyo) and Patagonia (Alto Valle de Río Negro).

Mendoza

Mendoza is Argentina’s foremost wine producing province and the heart of its wine trade. More than 80% of all Argentinian wine is produced is this province. Divided in five sub regions, Mendoza features an enviable array of grape varieties, soils and altitudes (from 500 to 1800m above sea level), as well as a very long, dry and mild autumn making it a winemaker’s paradise.

The Phebus winery is in Luján de Cuyo, 18 Km south of Mendoza city at 1150 meters above sea level at the foot of the Andes and the Chilean border. It is a seismic and arid zone and the vines receive water from the mountain rivers, fed by canals.

Patagonia

Rio Negro in Patagonia, is the most southerly of Argentina’s wine regions, lying at a latitude of 39 degrees south and has a similar climate to the Northern Rhône in France. Patagonia has a cold desert climate, with only 200mm of rain per year. These wines from the extremity of the world benefit from a very unique personality thanks to the soil of the desert where the sunny days and cold austral nights provide a very harmonic
balance.
